Procedure for Obtaining a Permit
As of January 2005, the City of La Malbaie has its own inspection and urban planning department whose offices are located at City Hall, 280 John-Nairne St.

Before undertaking to landscape your property, renovate your buildings, start up a new business or change the use of your property, take the time to check if a municipal permit or a certificate of approval is required.

Here are a few examples of work or activities that require a permit or a certificate of approval.

• Construction or expansion of a building
• Installation of a septic system
• Water catchments work
• Earth excavation, fill or clearing work
• Moving or demolition of a construction
• Any change in use of a building
• Putting up a sign
• Installation of a swimming pool or spa
• Installation of a fence, hedge or retaining wall
• Renovation or repair of a building
• Tree cutting work
• Any shoreline work or landscaping
• Subdivision of one or several lots

Take note that if you have a project to open a business or to put up a building (single family, two-family, multi-family, commercial, agricultural or industrial) or a cottage, it is important that you verify if the zoning allows it.

Special Cases
Certain sectors of the city are subject to a by-law on site development and architectural integration planning. Applications for a permit or for a certificate of approval in these sectors must be submitted to the Comité consultatif d’urbanisme (Planning Advisory Committee) and endorsed by the Municipal Council.

You can get in touch with an inspector if you would like more information or to obtain a permit or certificate of approval.
